KEBERADAAN ETNIS TIONGHOA DI KABUPATEN KUANTAN SINGINGI PROVINSI RIAU

Abstrak

Penelitian ini membahas keberadaan etnis Tionghoa di Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi, Provinsi Riau, yang memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan sosial, ekonomi, dan budaya masyarakat setempat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejarah kedatangan, bentuk interaksi sosial, serta kontribusi etnis Tionghoa terhadap masyarakat lokal. Metode yang digunakan ialah kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedatangan etnis Tionghoa awalnya dipicu oleh faktor ekonomi, di mana mereka membuka berbagai usaha yang turut menggerakkan perekonomian daerah serta membuka lapangan kerja bagi warga setempat. Dikenal rajin dan disiplin, masyarakat Tionghoa mampu beradaptasi dan menjalin hubungan harmonis dengan masyarakat Melayu melalui kerja sama, toleransi, dan kegiatan sosial budaya. Secara keseluruhan, keberadaan etnis Tionghoa memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap pembangunan sosial dan ekonomi di Kuantan Singingi

This study discusses the existence of the Chinese ethnic community in Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province, which plays an important role in the region’s social, economic, and cultural life. The purpose of this research is to explore the history of their arrival, the forms of social interaction, and their contributions to the local community. This study uses a qualitative method through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that the arrival of the Chinese community was initially driven by economic factors, as many engaged in trade and business that helped stimulate the local economy and provided job opportunities for residents. Known for their diligence and discipline, the Chinese people have successfully adapted and established harmonious relations with the Malay community through cooperation, religious tolerance, and participation in social and cultural activities. Overall, the presence of the Chinese ethnic group has made a significant contribution to the social and economic development of Kuantan Singingi.
