Abstrak

Jember waters are a fishing ground area located in the southern part of the island of East Java. Fish resources in these waters are dominated by small pelagic fish, large pelagic fish and demersal fish. One of the tagging tools that is widely used is the payang. Payang is included in the bag trawl classification which consists of wings, body and pockets. In this study, treatment used different mesh sizes in the bag, namely mesh sizes of 2.5 cm, 1.5 cm, and 1 cm in 9 repetitions, which is a real fishermen's treatment. The aim of the research was to obtain data on the catch production and knowing the effect of mesh size on payang catches. The method used in this research is the experimental fishing method using a Randomized Group Design (RAK) with 3 treatments and the supporting tools in this research are FADs, water depth and time. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance ( Anova ), and if there were significant differences in the effects between treatments, then the SPSS 23 Statistics BNT test was carried out. The results of the analysis of variance comparing the F count of replicates with the F table of 0.01 were greater or could be written. 4.45>3.89 then H0 is rejected, which means there is a very real influence. Meanwhile, for F calculated treatment with F table 0.01 is greater or can be written as 21.04>6.23 then H0 is rejected which means there is a very real difference in influence between the mesh size ( mesh size ) 2.5 cm,1 .5 cm, and 1 cm in the bag part of the payang fishing gear to the catch.
