EVOLUSI KEBAYA: TRANSFORMASI DARI TRADISIONAL KE MODERN DALAM KONTEKS BUDAYA DAN IDENTITAS PEREMPUAN JAWA BARAT

Abstrak

This research explores the evolution of the kebaya as Indonesian cultural heritage, with a focus on the transformation from traditional to modern forms in the context of West Javanese women's culture and identity. Kebaya originally symbolized the values of modesty, elegance and local wisdom, but has now adapted to the influence of globalization and modernization, including variations in design, material and use in various formal and informal events. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods with in-depth interviews and field observations at the West Java Pavilion, TMII. The results show that the modern kebaya not only maintains a symbol of cultural identity but also represents women's empowerment in an increasingly dynamic world, despite facing challenges in maintaining its traditional essence.
