BARUS: PINTU GERBANG PERADABAN ISLAM DI NUSANTARA

Abstrak

Barus, sebuah kota tua yang terletak di pesisir barat Sumatra Utara, memiliki peran historis yang sangat penting dalam sejarah kedatangan Islam di Nusantara. Sejak abad ke-7 Masehi, Barus telah dikenal sebagai pusat perdagangan internasional yang ramai dikunjungi oleh pedagang dari Arab, Persia, dan India. Interaksi intensif ini membuka jalan bagi penyebaran ajaran Islam, menjadikan Barus sebagai salah satu titik awal masuknya Islam ke wilayah Indonesia. Artikel ini mengulas peran strategis Barus sebagai pintu gerbang peradaban Islam, pengaruhnya dalam membentuk identitas keislaman lokal, serta bukti-bukti sejarah yang menguatkan peran sentral kota ini.

Barus, an old city located on the west coast of North Sumatra, has a very important historical role in the history of the arrival of Islam in the archipelago. Since the 7th century AD, Barus has been known as an international trade center that was visited by traders from Arabia, Persia, and India. This intensive interaction paved the way for the spread of Islamic teachings, making Barus one of the starting points for the entry of Islam into the Indonesian region. This article reviews the strategic role of Barus as a gateway to Islamic civilization, its influence in shaping local Islamic identity, and historical evidence that strengthens the central role of this city.
