DARAH KERBAU DI TANAH LELUHUR: MAKNA SAKRAL KURBAN DALAM TRADISI DETUNGGALI

Abstrak

Tradisi kurban kerbau di Tana Persekutuan Detunggali merupakan ekspresi budaya dan spiritual yang mencerminkan hubungan harmonis antara manusia, alam, dan leluhur. Meskipun mayoritas masyarakat Detunggali telah memeluk agama Katolik, ritus kurban ini tetap dijalankan sebagai bentuk penghormatan terhadap warisan leluhur dan wujud rasa syukur atas kehidupan. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menggali makna sakral dari ritus kurban kerbau dalam konteks adat Lio, mengungkap perjumpaan iman Katolik dengan tradisi lokal, serta menelaah peran Gereja dalam menjaga keseimbangan antara adat dan iman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ritus kurban kerbau bukan sekadar persembahan simbolik, tetapi juga sarana komunikasi spiritual dengan leluhur serta media pemersatu sosial dalam masyarakat. Dalam konteks umat Katolik, ritus ini dipahami sebagai bentuk inkulturasi iman, di mana nilai-nilai Kristiani berakar dan berbuah di dalam budaya lokal tanpa menghapus jati diri adat. Dengan demikian, tradisi kurban di Detunggali memperlihatkan bagaimana harmoni antara agama dan budaya dapat dijaga melalui penghargaan terhadap nilai-nilai leluhur dan pendampingan pastoral Gereja.

The buffalo sacrifice tradition in the Federation Land of Detunggali is a cultural and spiritual expression that reflects a harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and ancestors. Although the majority of Detunggali’s community has embraced the Catholic faith, this sacrificial rite continues to be practiced as a form of respect for ancestral heritage and as an expression of gratitude for life. This article aims to explore the sacred meaning of the buffalo sacrifice rite within the context of Lio customs, to reveal the encounter between the Catholic faith and local tradition, and to examine the role of the Church in maintaining the balance between tradition and belief. The findings show that the buffalo sacrifice rite is not merely a symbolic offering but also serves as a medium for spiritual communication with ancestors as well as a unifying force within the community. For Catholic believers, the rite is understood as a form of faith inculturation, wherein Christian values take root and flourish within the local culture without erasing the identity of the tradition. Thus, the sacrificial tradition in Detunggali illustrates how harmony between religion and culture can be preserved through respect for ancestral values and pastoral accompaniment by the Church.
